Cape Town — South African businesswoman and actress, Sonia Mbele, says she has been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease.
In May of this year, the Real Housewives of Johannesburg (RHOJ) star was hospitalised after she had collapsed due to extreme exhaustion.
According to ZiMoja, Sonia was diagnosed a few months ago, shortly before she started filming season 3 of RHOJ. She confirmed that her anemia has now become a chronic illness.
“At the time I thought I was just fatigued until my doctors performed additional tests which confirmed that I have anemia that has gone chronic,” she said.

Anemia is an illness that occurs when red blood cells don’t carry oxygen to the organs, resulting in tiredness and weakness. She had initially kept it a secret from everyone except her family and also revealed she’s been treating her iron deficiency and has made adjustments to her diet.
“I had to change my diet and eating habits, quit alcohol and I now have to go for drips to make sure I have enough iron,” she added.
Sonia has been in the middle of a tax evasion scandal and she appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrate Court last week and had the charges dropped against her after she signed an admission to her guilt and paid the outstanding amount of R41 000, The South African reported.
Sonia faced 41 counts of contravening the Tax Administration Act; they failed to submit Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE), the company (The Real Housewives of South Africa) tax returns, between the period of 2019 to 2022.
