Cape Town — South African rugby captain Siya Kolisi is known for his rugby achievements but this time he had something to celebrate away from the playing field.
Siya and his wife, Rachel, were in New York for the Tribeca Film Festival as Siya’s inspirational documentary — Rise: the Siya Kolisi Story — was scheduled for a screening at the festival, as well as being nominated for an award.
According to Tribeca, the documentary follows the harsh challenges of Siya’s upbringing and the trials and tribulations he faced on his way to being South Africa’s first black rugby captain. Siya jumps off the screen like a fairy tale, with challenges external and internal paving the path for a success story that encapsulates perseverance.
