Cape Town – Springbok captain Siya Kolisi and his wife Rachel’s first-ever short film, We Are Dying Here, is set to premiere at Africa Rising International Film Festival (ARIFF) on Thursday online and at selected venues in Johannesburg.
The couple has been working on this project for quite some time.
Rachel announced the project on her Instagram page earlier this year.

“So VERY excited to announce that in association with the @kolisi_foundation @siya_kolisi_the_bear & I are executive producers of our very first film! We couldn’t be more proud to have partnered for a short film that is massively impactful and needed now more then ever,” in part, wrote Rachel in an Instagram post.

Now a finished product, the pair’s film will open the Africa Rising International Film Festival’s fourth edition under the theme Africa In Me #MyStory.

According to Arts24 , We Are Dying Here is based on Siphokazi Jonas’s theatre production, which addresses the prevalence of gender-based violence in South Africa.

“One of the most beautiful results of the film is that it causes people to stop and think, and, more so, encourages men and women to have conversations. Like the title, it gets straight to the point,” Rachel Kolisi said as quoted by Channel24.

The film festival will take place from the 25th to the 28th of November, both online and in-person, at various selected locations in and around Johannesburg.
We Are Dying Here will be one of 30 films shown at the festival, alongside films from Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Egypt, and other countries.
