Cape Town – The sexual assault case against former 947 hosts DJ Fresh and Euphonik has reportedly been reopened, a year after it was dismissed by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) due to “insufficient evidence”.
According to City Press, police re-opened the case in January.
Last year, a woman known by her Twitter handle @Nampree came forth and alleged that the duo had drugged and raped her in 2011 when she was still a student.
Nampree’s legal representative, Brenda Madumise-Pajibo, said that they were waiting for an explanation as to why authorities took the decision.
“Remember that once the DJs announced on Twitter that the NPA had decided not to prosecute, we launched a formal dispute and grievance against the police. They then undertook to investigate what had transpired with the case.
“We’ve been very consistent. We’ve also taken up this dispute with the Public Protector,” said Brenda Madumise-Pajibo as quoted by The Citizen.

She later shared her sentiments of disbelief that the case has been dragging on for over a year, and later shared a thread of what actually transpired last year that eventually led to the case being dismissed.
” I can’t believe it’s been over a year of constant fighting,” she said.

She claimed that a “bogus private investigator” from Botswana walked into the police station’s premises and said that he was hired by her for her case.
“Without verifying with me they (SAPS) gave him my entire docket. In his ‘investigation’ he made me look like a SW (sex worker).
“That’s how my case got dismissed,” she said.
“I wonder who hired Thabang,” she tweeted, as she revealed the man’s identity who claimed to be the “private investigator”.

Owing to her sexual allegations, DJ Fresh whose real name is Thato Sikwane and his fellow bestie, DJ Euphonik, whose real name is Themba Nkosi, subsequently reached a mutual consensus to voluntarily step down from their radio contracts with 947 FM under Primedia Broadcasting.
“Primedia Broadcasting, DJ Fresh and Euphonik have reached a mutual decision for both DJs to come off air in order to focus on addressing this matter,” Primedia Broadcasting said in a statement at the time.
The pair subsequently issued their own statement to the public:
“In light of the serious allegations levelled against us we’ve decided to step away from all public work engagements until such time that this matter has been resolved and the law has taken its course,” read their statement.
