Pretoria — The inaugural Miss World SA pageant took place on Saturday evening and the first winner was Mpumalanga-born doctor, Claude Mashego.
The pageant took place at the Pretoria State Theatre on Saturday evening and the glamourous event would crown SA’s first ever winner of the new Miss World SA pageant, and would then go on to represent SA at the Miss World pageant taking place in India next year.
Claude was among 12 beautiful contestants aiming to be one of the faces of South Africa, alongside Miss SA Natasha Joubert and Miss Universe representative, Bryoni Govender.
“Congratulations @claudemashego on becoming our first #missworldsouthafrica,” Miss World SA said on Instagram.

According to The Citizen, Claude gave a convincing answer when asked why the pageant was so important, saying it serves as a platform for leadership.
“I believe the Miss Word SA platform is a platform for leadership for young people, and I’m saying this because we see the need of the rising of young leaders in our country.”
“We’re going towards the 2024 elections and we always ask the question, ‘where are the young people in parliament?’ These young women [referring to fellow finalists] are standing here to prove themselves as worthy leaders to take this country forward,” she said.
Carol Bouwer Productions was awarded the license to host the Miss World SA pageant earlier this year, which was previously held by the Miss South Africa Organisation.
