Cape Town – South African fashion designer Quiteria Leboganag Kekana reportedly died on Sunday at his home in Melville, Johannesburg, after “losing his battle with cancer”.
According to Drum, Lebogang, 38, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2021.
Multiple myeloma is cancer that affects plasma cells. Cancerous plasma cells accumulate in the bone marrow and crowd out healthy blood cells in multiple myeloma rather than producing beneficial antibodies.
Lebogang had started his second phase of chemotherapy, according to the report.
“It is with profound regret and sadness that the Kekana family confirms the untimely passing of international fashion designer, son, father, and brother Lebogang Quiteria Kekana (38) after a short battle with cancer. Quiteria sadly passed away on Sunday 17 April 2022 at his Melville home. Quiteria leaves behind his son, his beloved parents, siblings, family, and his puppy,” said the Kekana family in a statement as quoted by the report.

According to IOL, Kekana rose to prominence in 2014 when he co-founded Queteria & George with a former friend, George Malelu. The duo made a name for themselves by displaying their stunning garments across the continent, including in Dakar and Nigeria.
Unfortunately, George and Lebogang split in 2019.
After the split, Lebogang established his own brand, Quiteria Atelier. The brand grew in popularity after he was invited to show it at Flying Solo New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week, the report said.
