Cape Town – Popular artist Busiswa Gqulu will star in the launch of a US two-part show Love & Hip Hop: Lineage to Legacy in honour of the black history month.
The production will premiere on February 7.
Busiswa will collaborate with members of both the Love & Hip Hop crew and Black Ink Crew franchises as the two shows are said to be teaming up for a special production where they will be exploring their roots and ancestry.
“My role on the show as an African artist was to meet with the African American artists and really share what it has been like to be someone who’s always known my lineage, clan names, heritage, culture and able to make music in my native language isiXhosa and what that has been like,” The Citizen. quotes Busiswa as saying.
Mona Scott Young – the executive producer of the franchise is said to have approached Busiswa for a feature on the show, while she was on a six-week tour in the USA late last year.
“I am happy to be a part of this because everyone knows how proud I am to be an African girl who reaches all parts of the world and now gets to be a part of one of the biggest reality franchises in the world,” said Busiswa, according to IOL.
The “midnight starring” singer has always been passionate about matters relating to her culture and takes pride in using her language as a form of expression in her lyrics.
Her authenticity has led her to perform in global stages with iconic International artists like Beyonce who headhunted her for her Black Is King hit production.
The two-part show will be hosted by Dometi Pongo, and will feature some of the old cast; Remy Ma, Papoose, Yandy Smith-Harris, Rich Dollaz, Tokyo Vanity, Paris Phillips, Karlie Redd, and Momma Dee as they “examine the harsh effects of slavery and challenge stereotypes with Black culture, while also celebrating Africa’s rich history, music, craftsmanship, style, dance and food.”
Liberian celebrity chef Chauncy Yarngo and fellow South African singer Nomcebo Zikode, are set to make special appearances too on the special production.
