Cape Town – South African award-winning musician and entrepreneur Sbusiso Leope better known as DJ Sbu is reportedly said to owe R15 million in taxes to the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
According to a Sunday World report, the star owed SARS just under R5 million in personal income tax, but that amount quickly swelled to an astounding R15 million after an extra R9 million in tax and interest was added to his account.
Apparently, This isn’t the first time the taxman has gone for the entrepreneur.
DJ Sbu reportedly failed to pay a R2.2 million debt to SARS in 2018.

SARS requested that the present default judgment replace the old one when it applied for it.
“In terms of the Tax Administration Act, the South African Revenue Service hereby withdraws the certified statement filed in respect of the above taxpayer. Kindly endorse both copies of this notice, amend the court record accordingly and return one copy as confirmation of the withdrawal to the address above,” part of the letter reads, as quoted by the Sunday World.
DJ Sbu is not the first celebrity to find himself on the wrong side of SARS, according to The Citizen.
Musician Nkosinathi “Black Coffee” Maphumulo also found himself in hot water with the taxman last year when he was ordered to pay arrears income tax to the tune of R40 million to SARS, the report said.
In the end, however, he managed to negotiate the amount down to R8-million after “making representation on my present financial position and inability to comply with R40 million assessment”, the report quoted City Press as saying at the time.
