Cape Town – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has denied circulating reports that it would be paying Thabo “T Bo Touch” Molefe R480 000 per month for his “return” to Metro FM.
According to SundayWorld, Metro FM had “broken the bank” to rehire the seasoned broadcaster in a “desperate” bid to garner listenership and in an attempt to bring back lost advertisers.
But a statement issued by the public broadcaster on Monday refuted the claims.

“The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) refutes the claims made in yesterday’s Sunday World article titled ‘Metro FM gets Tbo Touch back at R480 000 per month’.
“The public broadcaster rejects this deliberate misinformation as it is misleading and factually incorrect,” read the statement.
The SABC said that it was guided by EXCO approved standardised freelance rates, which would see no freelancer getting half of the alleged amount.
“The SABC’s radio stations are guided by EXCO approved standardised freelance rates, which would not see anyone earning even half of the amount quoted in the newspaper.
“Lastly independent contractors do not get involved in soliciting sales and sponsorship, as the SABC does not have a commission scheme that covers individuals outside of Sales staff,” concludes the statement.
According to City Press, Tbo Touch was reportedly said to be part of the new line up of the radio station on April 1.
