Cape Town — Just days after it was announced that hit show 7de Laan would be suspending production, there was another twist in the tale as the show resumed production.
Danie Odendaal Productions announced on Monday that they had suspended production due to payment issues. Many of the cast were upset at the statement, as they were notified by a text over WhatsApp.
“Management has made a decision to suspend the normal 7de Laan operations with immediate effect due to insufficient funds to maintain salaries and other operational requirements,” they said in a statement.
“The Broadcaster (SABC) has been struggling to make the necessary payments timely to the production making it difficult to maintain the daily production requirements.”
However, Danie Odendaal Productions confirmed, in a new statement, production would resume on Thursday, 7 September, The Citizen reported.
“After further engagement with the SABC regarding outstanding payments, Danie Odendaal Productions is pleased to announce, although the full amount owed has not yet been settled, there are now sufficient funds to resume production.”
“We confirm production will recommence on Thursday. The cast and crew are committed to delivering the high-quality content our fans and viewers deserve.”
7de Laan has made headlines this year in what is set to be its final outing. Danie Odendaal Productions announced that the 24th season is set to be the final one and the show will air its last episode in December.
