SA legendary gospel singer Deborah Fraser, 56, dies after short illness

Cape Town – South African legendary gospel singer Deborah Fraser has died.

She was aged 56.

Fraser died on Sunday after a short illness.

The Fraser family confirmed the news via a statement published on the singer’s official Facebook page.

“It is with deep sadness to inform you of the passing of our beloved mother, sister, aunt and friend, and Gospel musician, Dr. Deborah Fraser following a short Illness. She passed on today (Sunday 15.05.2022) after midday, in the presence of her family and friends,” said the Fraser family in a statement.
The family asked to be given space to process the tragic situation.
“The public will be further informed of any developments,” the statement said.

According to The Citizen, Fraser was known for her bestselling albums such as Giloria, Isililo, Umsamaria, Udlalile Ngabantu, to name just a few.

She suffered a stroke earlier last week. She had also been battling diabetes which put her in a wheelchair in February, the report said.

The news of her passing took many South Africans by surprise.
