Cape Town — Months after the death of veteran radio host Mark Pilgrim due to lung cancer, his legacy was celebrated in style as his tribute concert raised money for his charity.
A party — named the Pilgrimage party — was hosted in Mark’s honour and he continued to make a difference even after death, as the event raised over R100 000 to go towards his favourite charity, Reach for a Dream.
Mark passed away on 5 March after a long battle with cancer.
The party was a tribute to his life and what he’s done.
The South African reported that the event had a memory wall where all attendees could pay tribute to him. The standout feature was a portrait of Mark’s face that was made up of Rubik’s Cubes, owing to Mark’s love for solving the puzzle.
Mark’s fiance, Adrienne Watkins, shared some of her favourite highlights from the night to her Instagram page.
“We sent balloons into the night sky as we made a special wish for you, my love . And then shared such a beautiful evening at The Pilgrimage Party celebrating YOU. How loved you are. What a life, what a legend, what a legacy. And how lucky all of us are to have had the privilege of you for so many years and especially me…. to love and be loved by you!” she wrote.
R102 000 was raised through ticket sales. Mark was an ambassador for ‘Reach for a Dream’ and the party, which played Mark’s favourite tracks from the 80s and 90s, was a roaring success.
