Cape Town – The elite of the entertainment industry came out in droves on Tuesday in support of the launch of the inaugural Basadi In Music Awards (BIMA) ceremony, which took place at the Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.
The glamorous event, which is in support of women in music, is founded by businesswoman and public relations guru, Hloni Modise Matau.
It was attended by the creme de la creme of the music industry from the old and the young alike.

“It all started as an idea that I put on paper and it looked big, impossible and unrealistic. When I spoke to people, they said it was a great idea. It’s unreal that yesterday we launched an idea whose time is overdue. I’m humbled by the support from our generous sponsors and the industry that has embraced this initiative. Big things happen when women pull together. This is for all young girls with big dreams and are afraid. I wish they could look at yesterday’s launch and realise that it’s possible. We are Basadi,” TimesLive quoted Hloni as saying.
The auspicious event was officiated by award-winning artist and actress Keabetswe “KB” Motsilanyane.
“We’d like to commend you on this momentous achievement and we look forward to a great and lasting partnership. As team SAMPRA, we are incredibly proud to be part of this brand because of everything it represents and everything it seeks to achieve,” SowetanLive quoted Tiyani Maluleke from The South African Music Performance Rights Association (SAMPRA) as saying.
According to Zalebs, the nominees will be announced in May while the gala awards evening is scheduled for August, in time for Women’s Month in South Africa.
