Schoenmaker, 25, won the gold medal and set the world record in the 200-metre breaststroke. She also won the silver medal in the 100-metre breaststroke at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
According to News24, Smith works as a member of the Kolisi Foundation team, which was founded by Siya and Rachel Kolisi.
Speaking about his time with the team, Smith wrote: “I’ve been reflecting on what we as a team have experienced in the past 7 weeks, and I realise that my journey has been less about the distance and more about the lessons. What I have seen with my own two eyes on this journey has often left me feeling more overwhelmed than fulfilled not only because of the magnitude of the issue but because of the severity – people are struggling.”
