Cape Town – South African comedian Trevor Noah, the host of this year’s Grammy Awards kicked off the ceremony by seemingly poking fun at Will Smith, who slapped Chris Rock on stage during last weekend’s Oscars.
The Daily Show host promised the audience a beautiful evening at the start of the ceremony held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday.
After the audience cheered for a beautiful eve, Trevor went straight into it and said: “Don’t even think of this as an award show, This is a concert where we’re giving out awards. We’re going to be listening to some music, we’re going to be dancing, we’re going to be singing, we’re going to be keeping people’s names out of our mouths, and we’re going to be giving out awards all throughout the night”.

Trevor’s comment about “keeping people’s names out of our mouths” was seemingly an indirect jab at Will Smith and Chris Rock after the most talked-about moment from the Oscars held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
During that ceremony, Chris went to the stage to present the ‘Best Documentary’ award, but before he presented the award, he made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair style.

“Jada, I love ya. ‘GI Jane 2,’ can’t wait to see it,” which was initially funny to Will until he saw the look his wife gave him.
Will went straight to the stage and slapped Chris then went back to his seat next to his wife and shouted ” Get my wife’s name out your f**n mouth”.
Will Smith later took to Instagram to apologise for his behavior
