Cape Town — South African comedian, Marc Lottering, got candid about what could have been a promising rugby career for him had he not been injured.
Marc Lottering is one of South Africa’s most iconic comedians and was, like many South Africans, extremely overjoyed by South Africa’s incredible World Cup final victory.
He took to Instagram and uploaded an image of the crowds who turned up to OR Tambo to welcome the Springboks back. He revealed that he should never have given up on his rugby career as he missed out on being welcomed by crowds like the Springboks were.
“I never should have given up on my thriving rugby-playing career. (Damn that one head injury!) This is the kinda welcome I’m missing out on everytime land in Joburg! 😂😄😄😄😄🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦😍 #BOKKE! #WELCOMEHOMECHAMPIONS 💚”

Marc Lottering is known for his unique Cape Town-based comedy and has done multiple shows, including one-man shows as well as portraying some characters. According to The South African, he will be bringing his iconic Aunty Merle to Johannesburg early next year.
“When I started creating this story, the world found itself in a delicate space post-Covid, along with South Africa facing its own burning issues.”
“The challenge was to acknowledge the realities of the world Aunty Merle was living in but to also keep the audience laughing,” Marc said.
He added that he will be bringing a new cast, original music and laughter mixed with sadness to a new show.
“Aunty Merle is outrageous with a good heart and has the most ridiculously delicious gestures and dance moves, which he would never be able to get away with in normal life,” he added.
