Cape Town — The highly-anticipated first season of The Masked Singer SA dropped on SABC 3 and it brought a new vibe of fun for Mzansi to enjoy.
The show’s first episode was an exclusive premiere in Hyde Park in Johannesburg.
The host, comedian Mpho Popps and judge Sithelo Shozi were in attendance on the red carpet, with fellow judges J’Something, Somizi Mhlongo and Skhumbi Hlophe missing from the event, IOL reported.
Popps took to Twitter to show his excitement for the show’s premiere on Twitter and thanked the team and those who tuned into watch.
“I had so much fun at the launch of @maskedsingerza last night! Every range of emotion there is, i went through it. Still can’t believe what we pulled off. Well done team!” he said.

The first episode had all of Mzansi tuning in and the chemistry between the panelists was clear for all to see. It was Shozi’s big screen debut and she showed a side of herself that was more than just her beauty and looks. She was on the receiving end of a lot of Andile Mpisane jokes from Somizi but she handled herself very well.
The first episode had a Zebra, Tree, Elephant and a Warrior as the masked singers, with the Zebra shown to be celebrity chef and author he Lazy Makoti aka Mogau Seshoene, which J’Something and Somizi guessed correctly.
There was also a special moment where Astronaut Mark Shuttleworth came out to DJ for tthe Tree.
Zebra- @thelazymakoti sure has some pipes on her! pic.twitter.com/JdnvVYPav9
