Cape Town — South African media star Somizi Mhlongo took to social media to pay tribute and show his appreciation for his late parents.
He took to Instagram to thank his parents for always believing in him and that he has never done it alone because they are always by his side. He was referring to the successful launch of his new Sompire kids clothing line in August
“Ma and Pa this is me. Yo son. Thank u for always allowing me to be me always. When I said I wanna be an artist u never said finish yo matric as plan B. Coz u have always believed in my Plan A and so did I. And plan A has had its ups and downs. At some point I wish I had plan B. But I’m glad I hung on. Plan A is now paying off. I knew that one day I’d be the CEO of something.
“I thought that wud have happened 20 years ago. But I’m glad it’s only happening now coz I’m ready. Here’s to my legacy. It’s gonna be another rough tough journey but u bet IM READY. luckily I don’t walk alone. I have YOU around me all the time.”

Acccording to TimesLIVE, Somizi’s dad Ndaba Mhlongo, and his mom, Mary Mhlongo have both passed on. Ndaba died in 1989 and Mary died in 2020. Both parents are unable to see the great strides Somizi has made in his career.
In 2020 the media personality, author and now business owner honoured his parents by having their faces painted on his denim jacket.
“When I saw a painting of my mom on Twitter by this young man, Olwethu Patuleni, I was immediately drawn to it. That’s when I had the idea of him making a portrait of my parents on a denim jacket.
“When the parcel arrived today I was wondering why is it in a big box. Kanti this sweet, talented young man added an actual framed portrait of my mom as a surprise gift. I only paid for the jacket and the drawing on it.”
