Cape Town – South African actress Minnie Dlamini shared the cover of a magazine with her veteran, iconic colleague Connie Chiume as a tribute to the country’s film industry, but fans were not impressed about Minnie having to share the spotlight.
MultiChoice group revealed that the pair will be appearing on the cover of The Plug magazine in a tweet.
“As Africa’s most loved storyteller, we celebrate the works of the legends who have shaped and contributed positively to the film industry across generations.
“@ConnieChiume and @MinnieDlamini wear their artistic hearts on their sleeves.”

The Plug paid tribute to both actresses, informing readers why they both deserved to be on the cover.
“Connie Chiume is the darling of SA film and television. From teaching through the 1976 student uprising in Soweto to taking up a career as an actress, her story is one of working through an era when the creative arts weren’t seen as viable prospects in our country to being celebrated on the international stage.
“Minnie Dlamini is nothing if not determined. She began her career as a TV personality, worked as an actress, and now heads up her own production company. Her story arch is one of growth in the SA film industry, that has ultimately led to her passing it forward by empowering others through her productions,” it said.
“These women represent two generations of SA film and storytelling. In their own ways they’ve contributed to its development, taking us into its future. Multichoice is where storytellers come together, and through these features they’ve helped us tell the stories of two generations of SA film and television, bringing people together around a shared love of storytelling,” the magazine added.

However, fans did not share the same sentiment with some questioning Minnie’s “legendary” status in the film industry.
I honestly didn’t know Minnie is in the film industry, let alone being a Legend of the said industry

Minnie Dlamini doesn’t deserve to breathe in the same room as the legendary Mam’Connie.

Connie should’ve been ALONE on this cover

Why couldn’t you feature Mme Connie with her industry equals like Lilian Dube, Thembi Mtshali-Jones, Nandi Nyembe?
No disrespect to Minnie but she’s not earned the ‘legend status’. What exactly has she done? Don’t disrespect the film and television industry, please.
