Cape Town — Springbok and Stormers star Damian Willemse has boldly confronted gay-shaming rumours questioning his sexuality, spurred by his foray into fashion-forward looks.
According to The South African, the rugby player is currently abroad, visiting places like Greece and Switzerland, while he recuperates from a finger injury that has side-lined him for the season.
Amid his travels, Damian has been exploring new avenues of fashion expression, including painting his nails in vibrant hues and embracing curated styles from notable designers like Rich Mnisi, a leading figure in South Africa’s contemporary fashion scene.
Recent social media posts showcase Damian confidently flaunting his designer ensembles.
“playing dress up with good company @rich_mnisi 🤌🏾🌞” he wrote for one post.

Damian’s recent bold fashion choices have stirred curiosity among his followers, who haven’t hesitated to voice their speculations about his sexuality, often calling him out on it.
Here’s what some have to say:
@thebjornsmith: “Brah u not helping the allegations😂😂”
@uapay_nigel: “Should I say it ?”
@martinleukes: “Confusing the enemy”
@ricus_97: “Uhm gay much. Lost respect”
@imnatashajohns: “Look its not the first time his nails r painted tho.I guess it’s a choice to come out or not lol otherwise keep us guessing 😂😂😂”
Despite the ignorant comments, the rugby player — who, as per The South African, is allegedly dating model Zoe Doyle — remains unfazed.
In a telling move, Damian liked a comment from photographer Lina Mallon that read, “redefining masculinity while being surrounded by toxic masculine comments be like 💅🔥”
Damian highlights his thoughts
Last year, the rugby sensation candidly discussed his fashion choices and their perceived connection to his sexuality with Weekly Argus.
“My fashion journey became a massive topic amongst the guys, and I was considered being weird or attention-seeking. Some say I’m coming out of the closet. I received backlash on social media, where people created fake accounts and called me names. They made it seem like they’re just joking.” he shared.
