Cape Town – Seasoned actress and author, Ayanda Borotho took to Instagram recently to caution her followers in a lengthy post about the kind of content they consume on their phones.
Ayanda said that everything that people consume has a lasting impact on their lives.
“It’s a minute of consumption that has such a lasting impact and because we think it’s just ‘news’ or ‘another story going around’, we never get to process the impact it has on us. And so we keep loading ourselves, piling up that energy that drains us, overwhelms us and often strips us of the opportunity to see light and live in gratitude,” she wrote.

Ayanda said that some time ago, she and her husband decided not to watch the news in their home.
“Three years ago we made the decision not to watch the news in our home. Some years ago we moved to the country side. There is so much I had consciously divorced for my own peace of mind, but “social media” was the one I married instead,” she said.
She said that social media is a “wolf in a sheep’s clothing”.
“That phone that is always dictating your state of mind because it pours into you even when you don’t realise it. It is so dangerous, because it’s the ‘friend’ who’s a wolf hidden in sheep’s clothing,” said Ayanda.
Ayanda said people should be mindful of what they consume.
“Generally let us be mindful of what we consume. As we encourage each other to be kinder to each other. May we not forget to be kinder to ourselves. We can’t pour from empty cups,” she concluded.
