Cape Town — Rachel Kolisi has announced a brand new collaboration between the Kolisi Foundation and the Saartjie Baartman centre, in an effort to prevent violence against women and children.
The Power2You project was made by survivors of GBV and is an effort to give women the tools to protect themselves against the scourge of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in South Africa.
Taking to Instagram, the Kolisi Foundation announced the new partnership with the Saartjie Baartman Centre and the tools each bag is equipped with.
“Unleashing the superpower within every #GBVsurvivor. Re-introducing Power2You, where the strength of women mends the wounds of the past and forges a powerful future.”
“Each pack contains pepper spray, a whistle, a journal (with information and space to write), and a card with emergency/support contact numbers.
“Together, we’re creating bags of empowerment, turning stories of survival into beacons of hope. Each Power2You pack is handmade by survivors of gender-based violence. Join us in this inspiring journey of healing, courage, and solidarity.”

In another Instagram post. the Foundation’s Programme Manager, Alison Claasson, said the beauty of the Power2You project is that it is women helping women.
“Survivors of gender-based violence will be contributing to helping us prevent violence from happening to women and children again. The Power2You pack is a tangible resource aimed at putting power back into women’s hands.” she said.
“Through our relationship with Saartjie Baartman, we discovered that they had a sewing programme. It forms part of a holistic healing programme for survivors that have suffered gender-based violence,” she added.
Exact Marketing Manager Waseema Sukhadia said they looked at what the Saartjie Baartman Centre needed to create a dignified space for women at the centre.
“We want them to come in here and feel empowered. We found furniture pieces and painted the walls to create a vibrant space. The big part of what we do as well is the attention to detail,” Waseema added.
