Cape Town – Award-winning South African singer Lira says she is starting to feel like herself, as she reflects on her six-months recovery journey after suffering a stroke.
The singer, whose real name is Lerato Moipone Molapo, suffered a stroke that affected her speech while away for a performance in Germany in April.
Lira took to her Instagram account to share how far she has come in her recovery and revealed her aphasia diagnosis.
“Can you believe it’s been 6 months – how time flies… I am feeling like myself yet I’m still on my recovery journey,” wrote the singer on the post.

She said she still faced challenges after being diagnoses with aphasia, a language disorder but she was happy with her progress.
“It’s going to take some time- but it’s reversible! This process has been fascinating for me and although it’s quite challenging at times, I am happy. Just to be alive each day is a blessing. To be among friends and loved ones is a precious gift.”
Lira also acknowledged the support she has been receiving from her fans and followers, saying they mean the world to her.
The singer has been diligent in updating her followers on her recovery journey.
In her recent update, Lira shared how her healing journey had taught her to “slow down, smell the roses and savour each moment”.
