Cape Town — South African music artists DJ Zinhle has pulled out of a performance she was scheduled to perform in Durban, as she can’t face being in the same city where AKA, Zinhle’s daughter’s father, was murdered.
Zinhle was scheduled to perform at the Fact Durban Rocks event as part of the Durban July weekend but later revealed she’s not comfortable travelling to the city just yet.
Speaking to TimesLIVE, DJ Zinhle said: “I cannot lie to you guys, I’m not ready for Durban. Emotionally, I’m not ready at all. I get a little anxious thinking about being in Durban. It’s going to be a while before I can be in Durban.”
She added that she wasn’t mad at Durban itself, but rather that it’s hard for her to go back, especially because it’s only been three months since his death.

AKA was tragically killed outside the now-shut down Wish Restaurant on 10 February. His mother, Lynn Forbes, spoke on East Coast Radio with Carol Ofori and said that she’ll need some time before going back to Durban
“I don’t believe I would never go back to Durban again. I think it’s natural at the moment. I have no desire to go to Durban at the moment. It’s not about Durban, but I think getting on a plane to Durban will just open up so much,” she said.
She added: “One of the yearnings I have is to stand in the spot where he died, and just be there. I know his soul is not there any more and his body is not there any more, but that is the last place where he was alive.”
