Cape Town – Seasoned broadcaster, Mark Pilgrim took to Instagram recently to break the news to his followers that after 33 years of his cancer being in remission, he has been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer.
According to Channel24, Mark was diagnosed with stage 3 testicular cancer in 1988 which he survived. The report also states that in 2008 he suffered a severe heart attack which caused permanent heart damage.
“My pledge to myself and you. I will take time even when scared to smile and be grateful everyday. I will endeavor to be on radio and do what I love almost everyday. If you are going through a similar battle, know this, you are not alone. Let’s fight together in spirit everyday,” he wrote.

In a separate post, Mark thanked everyone for the support that he has been receiving.

“Thank you for all the kind messages of support as I’ve spent a few days away with loved ones. My radio family at Hot1027 have been amazingly supportive and I ask for your patience when I’m off air receiving treatment,” he said.
Mark went on to show stoicism amidst the breaking of the tragic news.
“I’m not Chuck Norris. Yes, I am scared. I am also strong. Both emotions run parallel with each other. I’m under the care of incredible doctors and surrounded by love. This is my story. And there’s more chapters to come,” he said.
Mark is currently the host for the mid-morning slot on Hot1027FM from 09:00 to midday.
