Cape Town – The viewership of Idols SA has reportedly dropped from 1 018 607 in July to just 693 000, following Somizi Mhlongo’s departure from the singing competition.
According to Channel24, the ratings have dropped by nearly a third, with the show losing 31.89% of its viewers.
Somizi stepped down as one of the judges of the show amid abuse claims against him by his estranged husband Mohale Motaung.
Mohale alleged in a leaked audio recording that Somizi abused him physically and emotionally during their relationship.

He claimed that Somizi broke his ribs and nearly knocked out his two teeth in a jealously-fueled domestic dispute in their Joburg home last year.
At the beginning of the current live show round, M-Net announced that it would be bringing in guest judges to join Unathi Nkayi and Randall Abrahams every week.
In August fans of the show took to social media to voice their disappointment that Somizi was no longer on the show.
