Cape Town – Outspoken poet Ntsiki Mazwai has come out on Twitter to address claims made against her by podcaster MacG that she gets paid for her activism.
MacG alleged that the poet wanted to be paid R70 000 for her opinion on his podcast.
Ntsiki initially denied the claims, but recently took to Twitter to iron out the issue.
“I had thought I would ignore it, but owing to the false narrative being created that I get paid for activism I must protect my integrity,” she tweeted.
Ntsiki made mention of the supposed R70 000, saying MacG gave her the impression he wanted to help her pay her legal fees during their conversations.
“When the deal wasn’t coming together it was followed by a string of insults on WhatsApp; which ultimately resulted in them choosing to frame the narrative to cause harm to my image,” said Ntsiki.

Ntsiki claimed that she did not want to do the podcast because of its “misogynistic tone”. However, she said she was willing to ignore her feelings inorder to get her legal bills party covered by her appearance on the controversial podcast.
“And for me, it was them trying to use my vulnerability and then laughing as saying ‘I’m not the one who can’t afford to have an opinion’. Basically laughing at my being financially bullied,” she wrote.
