Cape Town – South African singer and Idols SA season 8 winner Khaya Mthethwa recently spoke about how the divorce from his ex-wife, former Miss SA Ntando Kunene, affected him, saying it was “the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through”.
The couple spent 2 years of marriage together before splitting in 2019. They have a son together.
Khaya was speaking to Mpoomy Ledwaba about finding his way to truth, dealing with depression and operating in authenticity.
The Idols winner reflected on how Covid impacted the effects of the divorce.
“I really struggled, I’m not going to lie. That has been the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through and I never want to go through it again … I cannot believe I came out of that hole. And when I went through it, it was during the period of lockdown. We broke up, then we went into lockdown. I was alone in my house for eight months… Thank God I didn’t have to go to church because I would have collapsed,” Khaya said.
“It was a period for me to unlearn and it was a huge awakening to the man I was and a huge awakening to who I wanted to be. I was on antidepressants and I was sleeping my life away.”
