Cape Town – A devastating wildfire swept through Cape Town’s Table Mountain National Park, particularly Tokai, starting late Friday and continuing into Monday.
Over 100 firefighters tackled three separate blazes in areas including Noordhoek, Steenberg Estate, and Clovelly.
Residents of a Noordhoek retirement village were evacuated, and Rachel Kolisi, ex-wife of Siya Kolisi, shared her relief on Instagram, praising firefighters and friends for their support.
“The season that keeps giving 😭 We are all safe (thank God), our home is safe. So grateful for our firefighters, community and SPECIALLY @carliannsmithy and Dale – honestly no way I would have managed the last 24 hours without you 😭
“Exhausted, and hope I’m not speaking too soon but I think the worst is over 🙏🏼.”
Authorities are monitoring flare-ups, urging the public to avoid affected areas, and expressing gratitude to firefighting teams as containment efforts improve.
