Cape Town – The entertainment industry has been left shaken following the sudden and untimely death of Rikhado “Ricky Rick” Makhado.
Ricky Rick’s family confirmed in a statement that the 34-year-old rapper passed away on Wednesday and didn’t disclose any details surrounding the cause of his death.
Celebrities have been flooding social media timelines, paying their tributes.
His death has sparked the topical issue of mental health and cyberbullying on social media after he had posted an intimate video clip of himself dancing with his wife, Bianca.

The video went viral and subsequently, received much flak, as many claimed that Bianca seemed as if she was not interested in the dance.
A few days later Ricky Rick was pronounced dead.
A report by TrueLove said that a DJ who has worked with Ricky Rick confirmed that the musician had taken his own life and had been battling with his mental health.
“He suffered from depression for a while before deciding to take his own life. He was found hanging by friends,” said the DJ on condition of anonymity as quoted by the publication.

TV producer, Jo Lurie took to Twitter upon hearing the tragic news and detailed just how much depressed the rapper was.
“I spent six months on set with him in 2017 watching him go through this. His struggle and the pressure to continue to be “Riky Rick” through depression, weighed heavy,” she said.

Like many celebrities who have been calling for acts of kindness since the news of the rapper’s passing broke, Lurie also said that people should check in on each other and educate themselves about depression.
“But yes, kindness wouldn’t go amiss. And yes, checking in on your people is absolutely needed. And if someone tells you they’re not ok, don’t dismiss it and say they’ll be fine. Listen. Educate yourself about depression so you know whether they need further help,” she said.
