Cape Town — The Crown Gospel Awards founder and uKhozi FM presenter, Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, has died.
Zanele passed away on Monday morning, her husband confirmed.
In a statement, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule confirmed Zanele’s death happened in the early hours of Monday morning at Parklands Hospital and the family requested privacy during this time.
“It is with a heavy heart that we, the Nkambule and Mbokazi family, announce the passing of our dearly beloved Ms Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, founder of Crown Gospel Music Awards and Ukhozi FM radio personality.”
“She departed to be with the Lord; early hours of 12 August 2024, at Parklands Hospital. We are grateful for all the prayers, love, and support we received throughout her illness. The family would appreciate privacy as we navigate this challenging time,” he said.

According to TimesLIVE, Zanele fell ill in April this year when she started experiencing vocal challenges, and could not finish Eshilo. Zanele’s daughter, Nonjabulo, revealed that her mother had undergone minor surgery to fix her shortness of breath, while her husband also revealed that she was diagnosed with lung cancer.
As reported by The Citizen, many gospel artists and preachers held a prayer session for Zanele’s recovery at the Assemblies of God church in Sandton. It was attended by several legendary gospel singers and preachers showcasing their support for Zanele.
She will be remembered for her excellent contribution to gospel music in South Africa and her legacy will be celebrated for many years.
