Cape Town – The man who made phrases such as “Tonight on e”, or “Friday action night” among others popular because of his unique voice, Bongani Njoli has passed away.
According to the Daily Voice, Njoli died at the age of 52 on Sunday at approximately 11:00 due to health issues.
The report said that apart from etv’s voice, he also enjoyed brief stints at radio stations including UCT Radio, GoodhopeFM, Heart 104FM, and Magic 828 AM.
According to IOL, his partner of 21 years, Sharon Lause Mrawuli pointed out how much she lost by losing him.
“I will miss his voice, of course, his smile too. He was my only friend, we hung out a lot together and listen to his old-school music. He wasn’t a person who held grudges, he was so humble. When he loved, it showed,” she was quoted as saying.
She also said that Njoli had left behind his 24-year-old daughter, Tembisa Bavuma. She added that his mother is still alive at 92 years of age and that “the family is not okay”.
Tributes for Njoli poured in on social media.

In the 7 years I worked at etv I never got to meet Bongani Njoli. Now that he is no longer with us, I am kind of bummed I didn’t. His promos were legendary. Among my favourite…

So sad this morning about the passing on Bongani Njoli. It makes you wonder why there are so few black radio broadcasters in Cape Town and why Bongani was left out in the cold in the few years leading to his death.
