Cape Town – South African actress, Thuso Mbedu, has hit back at a fan on Twitter who told her to “reduce” her American accent.
The Woman King actress took to Twitter to express some load shedding related troubles.
“Why nim’thusa ngeLoadshedding? Every family has its thing angithi,” she tweeted.
In response to her tweet, a user criticised her use of the American accent, advising her to reduce it.
“Reduce the American accent beautiful. was watching(g) (yo)ur interview,” he said, informing her not to lose her South African accent.

The user’s tweet may have come from a place of incomprehension and a lack of understanding about how unique the South African accent is, and that people overseas may have difficulty understanding it.
To cope with this, Mbedu may have decided to take the route of fellow South African accent, Charlize Theron, and adapted her accent so that it could be understood universally. After all, Mbedu is an international actress.
Nevertheless, the actress responded to this boldly, telling him not to speak about things he does not know about.
“Don’t talk about things you know nothing about,” she tweeted.
