Cape Town – South African author and activist Zoleka Mandela has made it known that she doesn’t want pity for being a single mom, saying that she’s happy.
The granddaughter of the late Nelson Mandela took to her Instagram to share a thought with her 436 000 followers, saying that she doesn’t want pity but respect for having the courage and the strength to raise her kids as a single mother.
“Don’t pity me because I’m a single mom. Respect me for having courage to do it alone, the strength to never give up, and the love to put my own child’s needs before my own.” – Proud Happy Mama. Good morning, beloved Queens … May you have a day as gorgeous as you are!!! Love, the #41YrOldMotherOf6 and her number 5 and 6, she named them Zenzile and Zingce!,” Zoleka wrote in an Instagram post.

“Leaving someone you once loved, for eight long years feels like it completely unhinges your entire life until you realize that it’s sparked self discovery, inner peace and has set you on a path of self love. It’s taken me two years to leave a relationship that no longer serves me, one that has eroded (for far too many years) my self esteem, independence, my mental and emotional state. Over the years, I’ve continued to fall in habit and have tied my sense of worth to things outside of me and placed it in the hands of others,” in part, Zoleka wrote in an Instagram post at the time.
