Cape Town – South Africa’s DJ Maphorisa recently ruffled some feathers when he took to Twitter in a not-so-humble brag, and jokingly claimed that he was the only artist in the world who could feature himself.
“I’m the only person in the world who can feature myself. LOL! Let it sink in,” the Amapiano king wrote.
According to Times Live, he was referring to Madumane, his alter ego who frequently appears on his tracks.

His tweet quickly sparked controversy, with some, taking it in the spirit of satire and others, not so much, telling him he was not the first one to feature his alter ego.

Later, the DJ clarified that the tweet was meant to be taken lightly because he was joking
“OK, I’m kidding! You can’t take a joke,” he wrote.

For many years, musicians have used multiple identities (alter ego) as part of their performance. For some, it was only for an album, while for others, it was a shield of protection and separation between an artist and their work.
