Cape Town – Media personality Somizi Mhlongo has taken to social media to speak about depression and to remind those battling it that “things will get better”.
The Idols SA judge took to his Instagram timeline and called for kindness for those dealing with mental issues.
He also addressed myths regarding depression.
“Depression is not a joke. Don’t get tired of reminding and encouraging yourself that things will get better. They will yazi,” read the post.

He also went on an Instagram Live where he openly spoke about some days when he feels emotionally overwhelmed, reported TshisaLIVE.
“I sometimes also remember days when I wake up and I wish I never woke up. That is when you know you are either depressed or you are going through a lot of things and you want to throw in the towel. That is when again I am grateful for the spirit I have. That 10% positive mindset is very important,” the report quoted him as saying.
The report said he also dismissed assumptions that rich or famous people do not deal with mental issues, adding that they are good at masking it.
“Don’t be fooled into thinking people who are high up there are having a soft life. It is even tougher to maintain,” he said.
Somgaga, as he is affectionately known, often speaks about the dangers of mental health and depression.
In December, on his #bathroomtalkswithsomizi, he talked about it.
“As the year comes to an end, some people are reflecting on family members that they have lost. Others are maybe doing an introspection on their life. All I want to say to you is that depression is real, it is not an attention-seeking tactic.” he said.
