Cape Town — Controversial social media blogger Musa Khawula was reportedly arrested at the Vredenburg Magistrates Court in the Western Cape on July 9.
According to Sunday World, the arrest occurred during his appearance for an ongoing murder trial, where he faces charges for the fatal stabbing of his ex-boyfriend, Wandile Khambule, in March 2022.
The report said that a court sheriff arrived shortly after Musa’s court appearance to inform the magistrate about an existing warrant for his arrest, related to a civil case in Gauteng.
Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Western Cape Eric Ntabazalila, confirmed the arrest, said the report.
The murder case has been remanded to August 7, 2024.
Reasons for latest arrest?
Musa’s latest legal troubles stem from a civil case involving serious allegations against Nozuko Mbalula — the wife of ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula — and her business partner, Michelle Perrow.
It is believed that Musa made comments about Mbalula and Parow on X, saying the two paid a bribe in order to secure the government tenders to the value of R150 million between 2013 and 2019, The Citizen reported.
“Fikile Mbalula’s wife Nozuko Mbalula involved in R150 million fraud scandal! Between 2013 and 2019 Nozuko Mbalula has paid Nomthandazo Mosupye to secure lucrative government deals. A dive into how this R150 million was spent and paid to different entities” Khawula wrote in a viral thread on X.

According to The South African, on May 28, Judge Nicolene Janse van Nieuwenhuizen delivered a striking ruling regarding Musa’s allegations. The judge declared that the blogger’s publication of these claims was unlawful, leading to some serious repercussions.
The judge ordered Musa to retract his statements within 48 hours by deleting the controversial thread from social media — a task he has yet to complete, the report said.
Mbalula also shared court documents on his X account, which ordered Musa to pay R1 million to cover the legal costs of the application.

In response, Musa said he does not have that kind of money.
“Ayikabi, anginayo bandla [Not in a bad way, but I don’t have it],” he wrote.
