Cape Town – Renowned South African dancer and choreographer Dada Masilo has passed away at 39 after a brief illness, her family confirmed on Sunday.
The family requested privacy during this tragic time.
“The Masilo family have requested privacy in honour of Dada’s memory, at this tragic time,” read the statement.

Masilo’s career, spanning over two decades, was marked by groundbreaking work and numerous accolades, including the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Dance, a Bessie Award nomination, and international recognition for her pieces Swan Lake and Giselle.
She was recently honored with a star on the Soweto Theatre wall, a tribute she deeply appreciated.
