Cape Town – Actor Ayanda Makayi has conceptualised a three-part docuseries called MTV Shuga: What Makes A Man for MTV Base South Africa.
The docuseries will feature South African celebrities who will have conversations on the topical issue of gender-based violence (GBV).
Ayanda took to Instagram to share a short trailer of the TV production that is sure to set tongues wagging.
“What started off as an Instagram live has become a three-part doccie-series,” he wrote.
“On the 1st of March, I sit down with numerous people who have journeyed the dark roads of GBV and we unpack “What Makes A Man?”….The conversations will be uncomfortable but that’s what we need to combat GBV. So let’s talk,” he captioned the short trailer.

A statement issued by MTV said: “The MTV Shuga documentary series What Makes a Man is executive produced by and features stars of MTV Shuga Down South, Ayanda Makayi. The issue of GBV is close to Ayanda’s heart having portrayed the character of Sol on the hit MTV Shuga Down South series whose character is a GBV perpetrator on the show,” according to The Citizen.

Featured guests on the show will be seasoned TV presenter Andile Gaelisiwe who is passionate about GBV matters as a multiple rape survivor, MTV Base Culture Squad member Uncle Vinny, rapper Maglera DoeBoy, Big Zulu and controversial media personality, Bujy Bikwa.
The inclusion of Bujy in the show, however, has left some on social media with a bitter taste in their mouth after he was embroiled in a physical altercation with fellow media personality, Boity Thulo last year.
But Ayanda said: “We couldn’t just have a one-sided conversation. We had to ensure that as an alleged perpetrator, he had to be a part of this conversation to talk about the lessons he learnt from his wrongdoings in order for change to begin. Conversations need to be uncomfortable, hence we have Bujy in the series,” as quoted by SowetanLive.
MTV Shuga: What Makes A Man will air on March 1 on MTV Base at 21:30 pm.

I said this before
The industry is ran by the LGBTQ mafia
Somizi is going back to idols and now Bujy is hosting a show about GBV after he just knocked the lights out of Boity

Bujy assaulted Boity.
Big Zulu abused the mother of child/ren.
Uncle Vinny body shamed and insulted dark skin girls.

Having an abuse history doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a second shot in life, maybe they are using them cz they were culprits themselves so they understand and know what they are preaching. They are being given this show cz they turned a new leaf in life.

Bujy should be nowhere near that show , it’s like having a paedophile on a kiddies show. How can you bring someone who literally hit a woman with a bottle , to a show about gender based violence? It’s bad taste to be honest.

Unless Bujy reenacts what he allegedly did to Boity, apologises profusely for it, and doesn’t get paid, we must just boycott this doccu-series. That’s the best stand – to not watch it at all.
Someone from the show has to address us regarding this.— The BZA ? (@BuhleTheFirst) February 22, 2022
