Cape Town – The #BeyHives couldn’t contain their feels when it was announced recently that award-winning Beyonce Knowles had been nominated for her first Oscar.
Beyonce’s song King Richard that she co-wrote with songwriter Dixson for the biopic King Richard has received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song.
King Richard is a biopic portraying the life of Venus and Serena Williams’ father, Richard Williams, who coached the Internationally-acclaimed tennis stars since they were young girls into the legendary over-achiever women they are today.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Will Smith – who plays Richard Williams in the movie – said Beyoncé’s collaboration came about after a screening of the film, where the Williams sisters inspired the singer to contribute a song.
In 2020, Beyonce was short-listed in the Best Original Song category for “Spirit” off the Lion King soundtrack she spearheaded, but the song ultimately did not make the final cut, reports Rolling Stone.
Beyonce is already a record-breaking artist with reportedly 28 Grammy award wins under her belt.
Here are some Twitter reactions from the #BeyHive:
I remember people complained about Beyoncé making “Black” music (?) but it’s a song about being Black that earned her first Oscar nomination ? Soon y’all will realize it’s always chess, not checkers with Bey.

Be Alive by Beyonce just got the Oscar nomination without Beyonce doing one interview, roundtable, film magazine, music video or for uour consideration request. Homegirl didn’t send the academy not a free ticket, vacation, goodies basket or eye wink. pic.twitter.com/sIatUzVaxI

beyoncé got an oscar nomination without recognizing the song, without doing interviews every two business days, without campaigning for months, without crying for it, minding her business and staying at home with her family.
