Cape Town — AKA and his girlfriend Nadia Nakai made South Africa proud, as they were both honoured with an award at the prestigious All Africa Music Awards (Afrimma).
The Afrimma awards are widely regarded as the most prestigious in Africa and this year marked the 10th edition of the show, which took place in Dallas, USA.
The awards are about crossing boundaries with music for the past 10 years, and Afrimma says on its website that the past decade has seen African music grow tremendously.
AKA walked away with the award for Best Male in Southern Africa. This marked the second time he’s won at the show. He won Best African Collaboration in 2015 and also performed at the show.

IOL reported that Tony and Lynn Forbes, AKA’s parents, expressed their gratitude to AKA’s fanbase, the Megacy, for their son’s latest award.
“Thank you to the Megacy for voting and bringing another award home. Kiernan’s legacy continues to live because of all of you. The AFRIMMAS were special to him, and winning this award for a third time is something we as a family will cherish.”
AKA’s record label also paid tribute to him, saying: “Afrimma was Kiernan’s first award on American Soil. To receive this award in 2023 is testament to his great artistry and the love from South Africans and Africans as a whole. His impact continues now and to infinity.”
Fittingly, AKA’s girlfriend also bagged an award. Nadia Nakai walked away with the award for Best Femle Southern Africa.
“I’m AN AFRIMMA AWARD WINNER!!!! Thank you for my best female Southern African AWARD.”
