Cape Town — After 24 incredible seasons on air, SABC 2 announced that the hit soap opera 7deLaan will be coming to an end, leaving many South Africans with a heavy heart.
The show was one of the biggest and most popular South African series.
SABC 2 and Danie Odendaal Productions made the decision to end the show, stating that the final episode will take place on 26 December 2023.
With a heavy heart, we bring you the sad news of the SABC’s decision to conclude the beloved soapie, 7deLaan, after Season 24 – the final episode being the 26th of December 2023.

The show first aired on 4 April 2000 and introduced South African audiences to much-loved characters such as Oubaas, Hilda, Charmaine, Aggie, Emma and the Meintjies family, who all became household names.
The statement went on to express how 7deLaan helped many South Africans learn to speak the Afrikaans language through listening and reading the English subtitles.
TimesLIVE reported head of Content for Video Entertainment for SABC Lala Tuku said: “SABC is proud to have worked with Danie Odendaal Productions and been part of the journey leading and producing the best Afrikaans soapie on local television for SABC2. 7deLaan has penetrated the hearts of millions of South Africans … SABC wishes all the dedicated and talented cast and crew of 7deLaan all the best on their future endeavours.”
“We are filled with pride with the impact 7deLaan has had on our society. Addressing important social issues and fostering inclusively. Thank you for being part of this remarkable journey with us,” The Citizen reported the show’s Executive Producer, Thandi Ramathesele said.
