The Airports Company of South Africa (Acsa) is calling for tenders for the design and construction of three solar PV plants at the country’s major airports with a total capacity of 9.5 MW.
According to ESI-Africa, the project at Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg will also include a separate five-year maintenance contract for the 5 MWp solar plant. In addition, a battery backup system is possible in future, which will include an increase in plant capacity.
Cape Town International Airport will get a 2.5 MWp solar PV plant, which will also require new monitoring equipment to ensure efficient operation and provide data analysis.
King Shaka International’s 2 MWp solar plant will be roof-mounted, and the contract will include a separate provision for a five-year maintenance contract.
