Cape Town – Hlabirwa Rassie Nkune, the man who allegedly confessed to murdering Hillary Gardee, has reportedly been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing two sisters in Mpumalanga.
According to News24, Nkune pleaded guilty to the murders of his girlfriend Pretty Mazibuko, 42, and her sister Marcia, 43, who was a police officer.
He shot Pretty and then turned the gun on her sister before fleeing the scene.
The incident occurred on 15 May 2022.
According to Lowvelder, in a statement read by Nkune’s legal representative, Nkune said:
“I admit that at all material times, I acted wrongfully and unlawfully. It is my admission that, at the time of the incident, I had the intention to kill both the deceased persons. I had no right in law to commit the aforesaid offences. I further admit that I knew at that time that my actions were punishable before a court of law. I am sincerely remorseful of my actions and ask for forgiveness from the Mazibuko family, the community, and this honourable court.”
Nkune was later arrested for another murder and is expected to face trial for that case next year.
Although he allegedly confessed to Gardee’s murder during his arrest, charges were withdrawn due to difficulties in locating witnesses.
The judge found Nkune’s reasons for the sisters’ murders to be lacking in his plea statement.
