Cape Town – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has reportedly announced its intention to oppose bail in the fraud and corruption case involving former Kaizer Chiefs spokesperson, Louis Tshakoane.
Tshakoane, 74, along with his wife Susan and son Louis Tshakoane junior, appeared in the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday.
They are facing charges of fraud, theft, money laundering, and contravention of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act. The total amount involved in the alleged fraud is over R100 million.
According to News24, Tshakoane was arrested on Tuesday night at the funeral of long-serving Mamelodi Sundowns communications officer, Alex “Goldfingers” Shakoane in Pretoria after being on the run.
His son was arrested in Kempton Park.
The bail application has been postponed until July 23, SABC reported.
The Gauteng NPA spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwana, said that bail would be opposed on the grounds that the accused are considered flight risks, highlighting that Tshakoane’s son had previously been granted bail but subsequently absconded and failed to appear in court.
