Cape Town – An operation by North West police responding to a tip-off about a man selling firearms has lead to the arrested of an alleged wanted serial rapist.
The man, 39, is linked to the rape of at least eight women in Klipgat, police said.
According to police spokesperson Amanda Funani, the suspect was arrested on a firearm charge after police acted on a tip-off that he was looking for a potential buyer for a gun.
“During the arrest, the suspect was found in possession of a pistol. Following preliminary crime scene investigation, it came out that the man was a wanted alleged serial rapist who evaded the arrest for the past two years.” said Funani.

She said the man allegedly targeted women who walked from taverns in Klipgat and raped and robbed them.
“The suspect led the police to his other place in Dubai Section, Mabopane, Gauteng Province where an AK 47 rifle with 33 rounds of ammunition, three magazines and 25 pistol ammunition were found hidden in a shack.” said Funani.
The suspect is currently facing several charges of rape, house robbery, attempted murder and several counts of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
“He is expected to appear before the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 11 April 2023.” said Funani.
