Cape Town – More details about Facebook rapist Thabo Bester’s daring prison escape have been revealed.
A series of media reports give a detailed account of what allegedly happened before and after the escape.
The Department of Correctional Service (DCS) confirmed that Bester had escaped from the Mangaung Correctional Centre, after an investigation revealed that a burnt body found in his cell at the time was not his, reported TimesLIVE.
Bester was reported to have died in a fire in his single cell in May last year while serving a life sentence for the murder of one woman and rape of two models.
He walked out of the prison disguised as a prison warder with the help of prison officials, according to TimesLIVE.
The body used as a decoy in the escape was hidden in the prison’s fridge until it was needed, the report said.
The body was then moved in a wheelchair to Bester’s cell, the report said.

According to IOL, an inmate who was on the same floor as Bester at the prison has reportedly revealed what transpired hours after Bester made his escape.
He alleged that hours after the escape, inmates were ordered to clean the burned cell and the Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services (JICS) were notified of the incident.
The inmate alleged that before the clean-up, prison staff removed evidence that included a burnt laptop, cellphone and Puma “tekkies”, the report said.
“When JICS officials arrived to inspect the crime scene, they found the body was removed; when the crime scene arrived they found inmates cleaning the crime scene using boiling water according to the instructions of the security management,” the inmate was quoted as saying.
The prisoner claimed the inmates involved in the clean-up were then moved to other prisons across the country and the false suicide was reported to both Correctional Services and Minister Bheki Cele, but was ignored, the report said.
However, Cele’s spokesperson, Lirandzu Themba, denied the allegations, labelling them as “nonsense” and baseless, said the report.
Since his escape, Bester and his celebrity doctor girlfriend Nandipha Magudumana have been living a high life making millions through a construction company.
The Fidelity Service Group has offered a R100 000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Bester.
