Cape Town – ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba says South Africa needs to re-establish the former crime-fighting unit, the Scopions, to fight corruption within government.
“We as ActionSA said we believe in the rule of law.
“We can’t live in a country where presidents of the country are involved in money laundering. What kind of society is that? We need to bring back the Scorpions as soon as possible. Once you give us the mandate, within the first six months of ActionSA coming into government, we must bring back the Scorpions,” Mashaba said in Sharpeville where his party commemorated the Human Rights month.
The unit was formally disbanded in 2009, and was replaced by the Hawks to serve the same purpose.

According to Times Live Mashaba also told party supporters they had an opportunity to restore human rights to poor communities in the upcoming elections.
“Next year, as we commemorate three decades of democratic government, we will do so with nearly 12-million South Africans without jobs and about 25-million citizens dependent on some form of social support,” he said.
“The ANC government has failed to provide a better life for all and abandoned the promise of our constitution of an inclusive and prosperous future for our country.
“The 2024 elections offer South Africans the best possible opportunity to replace the corrupt and dysfunctional ANC with an ethical coalition government that will reignite the promise of 1994 and restore the basic human rights the victims of the 1960 Sharpeville massacre fought for,” the report quoted Mashaba as saying.
