A wind-powered blockchain computing plant in Morocco will soon allow the mining of cryptocurrency in a more eco-friendly and sustainable manner.
Integrating its private computing facilities into the project, New York-based firm Soluna will develop a 900 MW wind farm power plant in the south of the country, as reported in Esi Africa.
In an effort to mine cryptocurrencies via clean, low-cost renewable energy, the company designs and constructs renewable energy power plants dedicated to on-site, high-density computing.
Utilising a modular pod system, the first phase of the project will see the construction of three pods, each with 18 MW production capacity, an associated storage system; and a 6 MW cryptocurrency mining or blockchain computing centre. This phase will be able to produce a total of 160 882 TH/s.
The 15 000 ha site will eventually be able to accommodate 75 of the modular pods.
‘Our vision is to power the blockchain with clean, renewable energy that we own and control,’ says John Belizaire, Soluna CEO. ‘Soluna will address the growing demand for energy to power today’s growing blockchain networks, and will create the world’s first “service node”, providing high-density computing for future blockchain networks.’
