Cape Town – Controversial media personality Gareth Cliff has expressed his dismay at the ongoing Wits university fees protest.
According to eNCA, students from the university went on strike last week after talks between university’s management and SRC representatives reached a deadlock.
At the top of the students’ demands is the issue of exclusion of those who owed the university and, as a result, couldn’t re-register or get accommodation.
The former Idols SA judge said on his podcast Cliffcentral that his tax money should not be used for anyone’s education.
If students wanted education, they should be able to pay for it, he said.
“Who do they think might pay for this?” he asked.

“And if it’s the responsibility of everyone in South Africa and not them (students). I don’t want to pay for your education, I couldn’t give a s**t about you being educated or not. I don’t have a responsibility. You are not my child. I didn’t make you. I’m not paying for you. Straight up, I refuse,” Cliff said.
The media personality is no stranger to controversy. He sparked outrage on social media after he dismissed the views on racism of the One South Africa Movement’s Mudzuli Rakhivhane.
